Chunky silver ring with 6 slices of synthetic ruby embedded in the band
This project started when I bought 2 slabs of lab grown ruby both roughly 8cm long and 1.5cm wide. I then gradually realised they were going to be very difficult to use practically. I went through the painstaking trial and error process of attempting to break these slabs into usable pieces. Ruby aka. corundum is one of the hardest materials rated at just below diamond on the mohs scale, so I had my work cut out for me.
Months of experimenting, sanding and lots of smashing led to this and many more projects to come
